This course will cover basic handling priciples when working with a client.
Positioning in bed and in a chair
This section will look at the best principles to use when repositioning someone in bed. Various different positions will be considered, as well as different techniques.
Transfer techniques – sheet, slide board, stand pivot, hoist
Getting someone into and out of a bed is not always as simple as it seems. We will explore techniques to ensure best position, for both the individual, and the carer/ family member
Pressure care and prevention
Pressure sores and ulcers can develop within a few hours. We will delve into what can be done to prevent and manage this
Stretching of the stiff or weak arm and leg
Stiffness and weakness are common with many clients. We will consider the options for managing/ improving stiffness and weakness, to enhance the quality of life and engagement of the client, and reduce the burden of care for the primary carer.
